The whole mechanism is a bunch of small plastic fasteners. Impressed with how much weight they can take together, but I don’t expect it to last if its used a lot with heavier individuals. Taller than most of the other folding plastic stools, which is most of the reason why I got it. Overall satisfied, but time will tell how long it lasts.
